Description

A variegated leaf is a metal leaf that has been heat-treated, chemically treated or both to develop dazzling patinas and unique discolorations.

This product is supplied as loose leaf in booklets of 25; each leaf in the book is separated by sheets of rouge paper but does not adhere to it. In order to remove the leaf from the book we recommend you slide the leaf out of the booklet onto the surface or pick up the leaf at the corners delicately and with clean, grease-free fingers. Loose leaf is suitable for gilding any surface but is most often used for more intricate and delicate work like molded areas where transfer leaf is unsuitable. It can also be used for reverse glass gilding with a stronger gelatine mix.

Variegated leaf will tarnish over time and requires sealing to protect it, especially if the leaf is to be used outdoors or if the gilding is to be touched or handled regularly. We supply a number of lacquers and varnishes that are suited for protecting metal leaf in particular we recommend Whitson’s Universal Lacquer as a varnish because it has been specially formulated for use over metal leaf. Please note that some of the colours of variegated leaf may alter in appearance when sealed, please test the leaf and any sealers before using it in any project.

Size: 140 mm x 140 mm (you will need just over two booklets per flat square meter, not allowing for wastage or any overlaps)
